How to Select the Right Camping Fridge for Your Caravan/Camping Setup

The fridge can be one of the essential appliances to have in your RV or camping setup. Whether you are travelling alone or with a few companions, it’s a lifesaver that can preserve food much longer and give you chilled beverages during those hot days. You need to make sure that you are picking the right camping fridge that is convenient to bring on all your journeys. There are many options out there, but not all of them will be the best for your needs. Here are a few tips to help you select one:

  • Know your options – Camping fridges come with a vast range of features and “bells & whistles”, that’s why it is important to know what is important to you. If you are into technology and love the latest and greatest features, then we recommend one of the CFX3 portable fridges. If you know you want to travel off the beaten track and don’t need WIFI technology, then we recommend a tough Engel fridge. If you’re looking for variety, we recommend looking at the Bushman expandable fridge – which will provide you the option to swap between 35L, 42L, 45L and 52L. And lastly, if you’re looking for a value for money option with some bells and whistles then check out the Evakool TMDZ or TMX portable camping fridge.
  • Identify the capacity or size – Most manufacturers offer a wide range of sizes from small 40L to around 100L or more. 60L is the middle ground for a long weekend with your family or a few friends, or at least five days if you are travelling solo. Just don’t forget to consider your vehicle space and capacity, too. Another important factor to consider is how much weight your vehicle can hold. This is extremely important as the last thing you would want on your adventures is being pulled over and given a fine for being over the gross vehicle mass (GVM).
  • Choose from leading brands – Pick a camping fridge from a well-known brand like Engel and Dometic so that you can be sure of the performance and the warranties backing it up.
